Generator
A curved crease, cut into panels
A generator in the curves and material library, called 6 times across 1 essay. Below: what it draws at its defaults and at the arguments the essays give it, what it checked while drawing, and everywhere it is used.
curved-rigid is one function. Everything below came out of it during this
build, at arguments taken from the essays rather than invented for this page — so a figure
here is the same figure a reader meets in an essay, and when the generator changes, this
page changes with it.
At its defaults

What it checked while it drew
Collected by running this generator with a listener on the assertions, not written here. The count is how many separate times this build put that claim to the test.
- the total turning of the approximation is 128.34° at every segment count from 4 to 128, constant to 8.9e-16 — refining a curved crease into more panels never removes any of the kink ×3
- every ruling on both sides of the crease touches one circle, of radius R cos ψ = 0.3312 in units of the sheet, to 2.8e-16 — the rulings are forced by the crease and not chosen ×2
- so two neighbouring rulings are not parallel: they cross at 0.333 from the centre of curvature, and the piece of sheet between them is a wedge rather than a strip ×2
- what it does instead is divide it: the turning at each joint falls as k to the power -1.000, fitted rather than assumed, while the distance from the true curve falls as k to the power -1.998 ×2
Where it is called
Changing this generator changes every figure on this list, which is what makes the list worth publishing rather than keeping in a check script.
